Make the invisible visible
The Big Journey of Small Plastics
Plastic is everywhere. In the sunscreen you apply, in the paint on your wall, and... in the river. Dive deeper into the world of plastics and discover how everyday objects turn into invisible microplastics. What is the effect of this tiny plastic on life in and around the river? Find out in 'The Big Journey of Small Plastics,' an exhibition and VR game all in one!
VR experience: dive into the world of microplastics.
Plastic has become an inseparable part of our daily lives. We clean with it, wear it, eat from it, and even apply it to our skin. But where does that plastic actually end up when we throw it away or wash it away? Let yourself be carried away in a surprising, swirling, and colorful Virtual Reality experience. In this VR game, you will see how everyday objects slowly transform into invisible microplastics, and how they find their way into nature through drains, rainwater, and rivers.
The Rhine Connects
The exhibition 'The Big Journey of Small Plastics' is part of the project De Rijn Verbindt / Der Rhein Verbindet (DRV, The Rhine Connects). This is an international collaboration project, funded by the European Union (INTERREG). Ten German and Dutch organizations are working together for a healthy, green, and thriving Rhine. The project builds upon the work, network, and knowledge developed by the Green Blue Rhine Alliance (GBRA), and is structured into three program lines: The Healthy Rhine, The Green Rhine, and The Living Rhine.
The Healthy Rhine
Plastic waste in the Rhine is a growing problem that affects not only the river and the life within it, but also the surrounding environment and human health. Through the subproject The Healthy Rhine of The Rhine Connects, we gain insight into the sources of plastic waste in the Rhine and the corresponding solutions. In this way, we make the Rhine and the Waal healthy again together.
